The FISH Who Lived

We have a fish.

His name is Planter. 

Alex named him that because he loves to hide in his plant. 

He is a Betta Fish.

We like him.

Our friends babysat him in Iowa for a year while we were in DC. 

Planter is a fighter.

Here is how we know...

We picked him up in Iowa on our way through to Arizona. We poked some holes in the top of a cleaned out peanut butter jar, stuck him in a cup holder in the van, and we were on our way. Somehow, he survived the long and bumpy ride to the great Southwest. 

After we got here, we stayed with family for the first two weeks, and then moved into our place. Joseph was in charge of transporting dear Planter to our new apartment while I dropped the kids off at Charla's house for moving in day. We emptied his bowl out leaving just enough water to get him by for awhile. Joseph (supposedly) ;) secured him in the van between some other larger heavier items that he was taking, and off he went. Well, a ways down the road, he stepped aggressively on his brakes for one of those annoying lights where you either rush through it and risk a ticket or slam on your breaks to ensure that you don't get pulled over. Well, Joseph didn't want a ticket....Planter went flying....

Bowl tipped over, water went everywhere, Planter flopped out, Joseph quickly pulled over to a gas station and did his best to grab a live wiggly flopping angry fish. Well, after awhile, Joseph caught that fish and asked for help to get him some water. (Ha! I can just picture it) Anyway, some lady got him some water and soon Planter was back into a place where he could stop flopping and being hysterical. He HAD to have been out of water for at least 5 minutes. Well.....somehow.....he lives. I don't know how, but he is happy and lively.....but he sure does puff his fighting fins at us a lot more than he used to. The (angry) fish, who lived.
