Long Weekend

A big perk of working for the government is that you get just about every holiday off . . . this means lots of long weekends.

When we first moved here we spent almost every weekend going into the city. We have been taking a break from that pretty much all winter and instead trying to push through cold after cough after tummy ache after ear infection. This weekend though, after almost two whole weeks of everyone being healthy, we went to the Air and Space Museum in Virginia. We met up with my old crony Elizabeth, who I was in Young Women's with while growing up in Iowa, and had some 6 kids ages 6 and under kinda fun.

This museum is basically just a gigantic hanger where there are airplanes, rockets, etc. The kids loved it. So free to run! There was one jet displayed there that flew from California to DC in 1 hour and 4 minutes . ..going at about 2000 miles per hour! Amazing.

Why is the baby the one NOT in the stroller? 

Alex could have stayed there all day. He loved this place. Thankfully we steered his eyes away from the totally cool astronaut costume they had for sale.

When we came home from the museum, we spent the rest of the day getting a few things done and doing things like this:

We found Rebekah sleeping like this when we went up to get her. Silly girl.

She never wants to nap in her bed. She sleeps fine there at night, but for naps it is always "under Bekah's bed" or "Buggy's Bed" or "under Buggy's bed!"

We rounded off the night with making my Jillian Michael's meal of the week. This was Tilapia with herbs, tomatoes, and mushrooms (really really good) and red cabbage slaw with apples (nasty) and some brown rice. 

We had a nice Sunday and went down to Waldorf, to the Amorino's house (same friend who went to the museum with us) where we had lots of fun, but didn't take any pictures.

On Monday, President's Day, we woke up to see cold rain, shooting down our plans for Mt. Vernon. We had fun anyway....

My genius husband came up with this idea . . . give Alex a word and some small items and have him place the items on the letters that spell the word. Here, he has spelled 'Dinosaur.' He insisted that you say it, "Dine-Uh-Sore," so it is spelled,
D-I-N-U-S-O-R. :) You have to look closely to see all the letters. One is practically under the bookshelf.

Got out the costumes . . . always a hit. Rebekah is a ballerina. Rockin' hair huh?

One day at dinner everyone was making silly faces. The kids loved this exercise. :)

And last but not least. It warms a mother's heart when her daughter sees her pony tails and says, "You wook petty mommy! Bekah do it too?!"
